Humanitarian actors from INGOs, NGOs and CSOs gathered on 12-15 September 2017 in Manila, Philippines for the training on the Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS) organised by Christian Aid with the support of the Humanitarian Leadership Academy Philippines.

Participants gained a deeper understanding on the structure, guidelines, and purpose of the Core Humanitarian Standard and how these can be mainstreamed in their respective organisations.

Specific challenges for each organisation was tackled not only during humanitarian response but also during regular operations.

Subhashis Roy of Lutheran World Relief facilitated and Cyra Michelle Bullecer of Christian Aid guided participants on how they can institutionalise CHS commitments, its quality criteria, key actions and guidelines within the respective organisations.

An organisational Action Plan to mainstream specific CHS commitments was drafted. After the training, participants will be provided technical support and mentoring to carry out the standards in their organisations.

For the Philippines Academy Centre, attending the training was an excellent way to better understand how the CHS can be contextualised in 2018. The experiences and lessons shared during the training will be compiled and used in developing a localised surge training module.
