The Humanitarian Leadership Academy has convened a large group of leading humanitarian and development organisations to co-create a “Safeguarding Essentials” e-learning programme, which will launch later in 2019.

The concept was developed with input from over 80 organisations, including many from national and local organisations, and will result in an online learning programme (combined with a facilitators guide) hosted on the Academy’s learning platform Kaya, freely available to all.

The programme is directed at staff and volunteers working for humanitarian or development organisations anywhere in the world, focusing on providing a strong foundation of knowledge on the essential issues surrounding safeguarding, including Protection against Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) and workplace harassment.

We are partnering with the Open University to develop the programme, and will be supported by various subject matter experts (led by War Child and Save the Children International) from the consortium to ensure that the content is relevant, accessible, high quality, and in line with sector best practice.

Our vision is that this programme will be the go-to introductory training resource on safeguarding for the humanitarian and development sector, particularly for organisations that are unable to invest in their own learning opportunities.
