Learning Solutions Specialist (London, UK)

The Role

Reporting directly to the Learning Solutions Lead, the Learning Solutions Specialist is responsible to ensure the design, development, and delivery of innovative, quality humanitarian needs-focused learning solutions and services at individual, organisational and sector-wide levels.

This role is multi-disciplinary and provides end-to-end support to the design, development, management, and the delivery of learning solutions and services. The Learning Solutions Specialist also provides day to day project management and coordination support on a variety of tasks including award and contract management, reporting and information management. Effective financial management is also a key deliverable of this role as the role holder has budget management responsibility.

The Learning Solutions Specialist role sits within the Humanitarian Leadership Academy (HLA) team. This team combines digital learning platforms, creative learning content and the design, development and delivery of quality accredited capacity strengthening and learning in an exciting and innovative offer that is both unique and unmatched anywhere across the sector.

Key Accountabilities

In addition to the above, you will:

  • Be responsible to monitor the learning projects or programmes such as, but not exclusive to, the preparedness and reactive learning programmes.
  • Ensure the technical and andragogical quality of learning projects and programmes in close collaboration with other technical specialists, where necessary, and MEAL support staff.
  • Establish and manage effective relationships with key stakeholders and partners within the humanitarian learning sector to provide cutting edge solutions.
  • Have oversight of multiple award-specific budgets in order to effectively implement the learning projects or programmes, including staff recharge, logistics, procurement, consultancies, etc. Ensuring information management is aligned to SCUK and donor specific compliance criteria, working with the Awards and Contract Specialist as required
  • Lead and manage the process of conducting learning needs analysis, and the development of relevant and innovative learning products and services based on that analysis
  • Lead and manage the process of designing content for developing content into online learning, working closely with the Digital Learning Specialists

Person Profile

Skills and Experience

  • Ability to build and work as part of a high performing team and work effectively across the different functions to ensure maximum effectiveness and impact, including quality assurance elements
  • Significant experience of designing, developing, and implementing high quality and impactful user-centered blended learning programmes to support identified need, including through learning needs analysis
  • Project and programme management as well as sound financial/budget management experience
  • Technical qualification and/or experience in a humanitarian technical sector, such as public health, child protection, education, cash and voucher assistance or other Save the Children priority area is desirable.


  • Able to juggle multiple priorities and deliver to deadlines and respond at short notice to a wide variety of tasks
  • Ability to deliver and remain calm and confident in rapidly changing and time-pressured environments
  • Ability to establish professional credibility quickly with colleagues, and to interact effectively at all levels and across all departments
  • Ability to write business communications such as reports, presentations and written communications to a high level
  • Strong problem solving and organisational skills
