Maja Kuna-Parrish is a Techno-Pedagogical Engineer at the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). She is in charge of developing learning materials for a diverse and international workforce of over 18,000 people.
In August 2017, the world witnessed one of the largest cross-border forced displacements of recent times. Within the space of one month, close to half a million Rohingya men, women and children fled their homes in Northern Rakhine State, Myanmar, to escape violence and seek safety in Cox’s Bazar district, Bangladesh.
The Academy is proud to partner with the Diaspora Emergency Action and Coordination (DEMAC*) Initiative to improve diaspora emergency response capacity and coordination with the formal humanitarian system, through the provision of face to face technical training, a train the trainer session, and a series of new online modules hosted on the Academy’s e-learning platform Kaya.
In 2016, the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) and the Humanitarian Leadership Academy (the Academy) embarked on a strategic partnership to help provide staff with access to high quality humanitarian learning opportunities. Through this partnership, the NRC adopted the Kaya online learning platform and made it available to their global network of 6,000 staff.
Joana Villaflor, 34, is an Independent Consultant. She has worked in the development and humanitarian sector for eight years now, managing and delivering trainings and disaster risk reduction projects.
