Working Together to Respond to Disasters in the Philippines
The ceremonial signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Caucus of Development NGO networks (CODE NGO) partners was held on 24th November 2016, during their 25th anniversary and Social Development Week. This MoU enables CODE NGO and the Philippines Academy Centre to work together in building the capacity of members of the network in responding to disasters in the communities where members are present.
At the Partnerships for Community Resilience breakout session during the event, Mark Cervantes, Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience Program Manager at the Philippines Academy Centre, emphasized that accessing basic rights are central to resilience and that resilience should be managed by the community:
“They should be at the centre of this process because they will be the ones to identify the risks and the measures needed to be resilient.”
