In this webinar, hear from experienced panelists working in the Nigerian and African context including insights from responding to the decade long crisis in the northeast region of Nigeria. The main objectives of the webinar are to:
- Analyze the role of local leadership in the management of humanitarian crises
- Identify challenges and opportunities related to the integration of local leadership approaches into humanitarian interventions and local funding mobilization.
- Discuss local/indigenous leadership mechanisms in crisis management and strengthening their capacities to effectively contribute to decision making humanitarian response.
- Share experiences of good leadership practices during crisis management.
About the Panelists
Nancy Muchemi-Mureti, Head of Regional Centers HLA
Nancy is currently the Head of Regional Centres in the Humanitarian Leadership Academy. With a career spanning over 20 years in both development and humanitarian sectors, she has delivered capacity sharing initiatives, facilitated change processes and managed programmes across several contexts. Passionate about locally led action, Nancy is experienced in coaching and facilitating leadership development across multiple countries across the globe.
Abdulrahman Sharif, Senior Humanitarian Director, Save the Children International
Abdurahman is a Senior Humanitarian Director at Save the Children International. He has twenty years of experience in the aid sector. From 2019 to 2020, he was a Special Advisor to the Prime Minister of the of Somalia. In 2014, he was granted a fellowship award by the Association of chief Executives of Voluntary Organisations (ACEVO) which uncovers and champion the most inspirational sector leaders from the UK.
Abdurahman holds a master’s degrees in development studies from the University of Pavia (Italy). He speaks English, French, Italian, Spanish, Somali and is conversant in Arabic. He is currently enrolled in a Doctorate in Policy Research and Practice at the University of Bath on a part-time basis. As part of this, he is interested in examining the interactions between state and society, through the provision of social services, in places where governance structures are defined as weak.
Peter Michael Egwudah, Head of Civil Society Organisations (CSO) Forum – Adamawa State, Nigeria
Peter heads the CSO forum in Adamawa State being one of the most affected locations by the incidence of the non-state armed group (NSAG), also known as Boko haram. His work spans over two decades working in both development and humanitarian sectors across Nigeria.
He is the National Program Coordinator of the Civil Society for Poverty Eradication (CISCOPE), a Nigerian national based organization. He is currently one of the civil society representatives in the humanitarian country team (HCT) Nigeria as well as the Vice Chair; North East Civil Society Forum. He holds a Master degree in Public Administration and Management. He is an advocate for change, good governance and peaceful coexistence.
Ibrahim Ishaku Balami – Executive Director / Co-Founder, Future Resilience and Development (FRAD) Foundation
Ibrahim is the Executive Director and Co-Founder of FRAD Foundation, a National Organisation responding to the humanitarian and development needs in Northeast and Northwest Nigeria. Ibrahim excels in nonprofit leadership and strategic planning with over 8 years experience in the space implementing various humanitarian initiatives with funding from direct donors, the UN and INGOs. Through various locally led initiatives, Ibrahim has pulled out over 3 million dollars responding to the more than a decade long humanitarian crisis in Northeast Nigeria alongside his innovative team at the FRAD Foundation. Ibrahim has passion for MEAL, HDP Nexus Programming with exceptional passion for ICT4D.
